Highland Terrace VBS

This week, the kids had vacation bible school at our church. Highland Terrace Baptist Church always goes all out in decorations, music, activities and love! The kids had a great week and so did I! I was able to do some running, shopping and pampering. However, I am glad to be "off" of chauffeur service for a few weeks and get my house in order!

Beating the Heat!

My Sista had a workshop today so Jax joined us at the pool this afternoon. Usually we stay all day, but today, just an hour and a half was plenty of time to bake in this Texas heat!

The 10 Little Pigs

Miss M went with me today to the CISD Administration building for a meeting. Julia kept her entertained with drawings of pigs and alliterating sentences about pink pigs named Petunia on purple paper! She had a blast! Julia was sweet enough to display M's drawings on her filing cabinet...all 10 of them!

Sizzling...

2 kids + swimming all afternoon (with no nap for the preschooler) + early VBS start time = mommy waking THEM up for the first time this summer! Vengeance is bliss! (insert evil laugh) However, before I felt the sweet taste of revenge, I had to enjoy the peaceful, sweet moment of them sleeping. No whining, no fighting, no arguing...pure gifts from God.

I am not Catholic, but I want to make a confession. Today was my first time to eat at CB's. I KNOW! I heard all about it on Facebook! It was delish!

Miss M woke up so excited about her 4 year checkup today. A sucker and a sticker can make her day! Her mean ol' mommy didn't tell her about the 3 shots she was getting until about a minute before the nurse walked in! She was all hysterics and tears until Nurse Tanya opened up her scrub pocket to reveal 3 bracelets, a ring and a game. Add that to the My Little Pony sticker and Dum Dum sucker and she was happy as a clam. Those tears dried right up! Lol!

*side note: Just heard from a good friend who told me she is moving. More on this later...*

Sunday Funday! (a day late!)

We were so worn out last night that I totally forgot to blog about our Sunday adventures. No real adventures, just our normal Sunday in the summer! Church, lunch with family, swimming and running! The kids began VBS at Highland Terrace during their Sunday School time. I LoVe VBS...it's mommy's time to get some errands ran! After church, we went to Cracker Barrell with the whole fam. I was looking forward to this AwEsOmE salad they had the last time I was there in May. OF COURSE it isn't on the menu anymore! Grrr...

After lunch I decided to run my 3.5 miles for the day. Since our temps are starting to hit the hundreds, I wanted to get my run in on the treadmill instead of waiting for my Sista (my nickname for my sister in law!) to run at dusk. It is too dang hot even at 8!

The rest of the afternoon I laid out and "pinned" (on Pinterest), YouTubed Fifty Shades funnies and shopped the Facebook garage sale classifieds while the kids swam. My Sista and my nephews joined us and the Hubs came later. Check out the pic of Miss M swimming! She just turned 4! Thanks to the Rec for great swim lessons!

I love Sundays! (and Sundaes...but that is a completely different post! Ü)

My philanthropic loves

Today was the last day if VBS at FUMC Commerce. All week, the kids have been collecting money for Living Water International. They were challenged to drink only water all week and donate the money they would have spent on soft drinks or juice pouches. Gus was very adamant about following through with the challenge and even got Madeline to give some of her money as well. All together, they raised $7 which will give 7 people safe drinking water for a year. I am so proud that my kids have giving hearts.

Madeline is growing up so fast. I love watching her when she doesn't know that I am. Before her nap today, she tucked in her babies and gave them night-night kisses in the extra bed in her room. She is going to be a good mommy! (MANY years from now!)

Look at mine and Andy's new portraits! Smurf blue with heads and legs...at least we are holding hands! <3

A Day at the Museum

The Kinder Krew (well, 2/3 of us) met at the Northeast Texas Children's Museum today for some play time and catch up time! It was great to catch up with them! We have only been out of school for 3 weeks, but these girls are like family and I have missed them.

When we got to the museum, I realized that I have never actually paid to go inside even though I have been at least 10 times! Field trips and birthday parties have been my only experiences there. It was nice to sit back and let the kids play. Well, I got to sit back because my kids are a little older. The other moms had a little bit of chasing to do! It was a great day.

Basketball fever

Gus' new obsession is basketball. Thanks to Coach Walker and the TAMU-C basketball camp he went to this summer, he and Andy play "horse" every night. He gets really frustrated but we are trying to team him that "practice makes perfect!"

10K training

Week 1 is behind me! I have run more this week than I ever have. The training program that I am using (here) had me running 3 miles on 3 different days this week. Normally, I run 3 miles on Sunday and run 2 miles once or twice throughout the rest of the week. Next week and each week after, the program gradually increases the mileage until I am running 7 miles. This is definitely a challenge, but I love a good goal to work towards!

A new adventure

It finally came to me this week. The answer to the question that has been nagging at me for 4 years. How am I going to document the life and times of my family and stay sane doing it? I don't have time to scrapbook anymore and it feels like my Facebook timeline is the only place that I sporadically post pictures and milestone moments. A family blog is a perfect outlet for me to keep up with our "Crew" while living a hectic, technology-driven, but blessed life as a mom, wife and teacher. Want to follow me on this adventure? You can follow my blog posts by submitting your email on the right. Welcome to the life of The Kilgore Crew!
